SLIIT 5th Castle Fest 2021 Invitational Inter – University Chess Tournament
“SLIIT 5th Castle Fest 2021” Invitational Inter –University Chess Tournament which was organized by the SLIIT Chess Club was held on12th March 2022 at the SLIIT Malabe Campus.
Final matches were held on Friday (12th March) where KDU Chess players showed their talents. Bringing honor to KDU, the 2nd Runner Up Team trophy was won by the KDU Boy’s Chess Team and the Champion Team Trophy was conquered by the KDU Girl’s Chess Team. Day Scholar RGRDM Rajapaksha clinched the Best on Board 05 and Day Scholar AWTD Sarathchandra clinched the Best on Board 8 from Girls Team and Day Scholar A.D.E.M Perera clinched the Best on Board 1 from Boys team.
SLIIT 5th Castle Fest 2021 was a great opportunity for the KDU Chess players to mingle with players of 10 other private universities and to gain experience in upcoming tournaments. Representing KDU Girl’s Chess Team, RGRDM Rajapaksha – Captain, A.A.B.B Athukorala, DAG Dhanawalawithana, RMPC Rathnayake, SBK Karunaratna, TD Senevirathne, AWTD Sarathchandra C.N. Anjalika Bopage and Boy’s Chess Team, A.D.E.M Perera – Captain, M.T.S Perera, B.N Thawalampola, N.N.B Herath, R.A.M.B Ranasinghe, S.A.D.G Samarasinghe, Gihan Neranja, Thalaal Naushad, C.N. Anjalika Bopage participated in the tournament.
The first Sri Lankan chess player who holds the title of “Woman International Master (WIM, 2011)” Ms. Sachini Ranasinghe participated in the awarding ceremony as the Guest of Honour in this glamorous event.
