Inter-Faculty Cricket Tournament
Finals of the Inter-Faculty Cricket Tournament 2022 of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University was held on 30th August between the Faculty of Management Social Sciences and Humanities (FMSH) and Faculty of Engineering (FOE). The tournament came to its finals after a series of 20 – 20 matches among talented players, representing 10 faculties executing their top-most planning and skills at the championship. Players representing Ten (10) faculties participated in the event.
The inaugural match was played between the FOE and the FAHS on 27th March 2022 morning at KDU ground. FOE won this match by 67 runs and O/C PKRJ Jayasinghe of FOE scored 57 runs. D/S Y Shaganudan of FAHS took 3 wickets for 32 in this match. Many successful performances were shown throughout this tournament. 121 off 61 balls scored by D/S I Caldera of FOL against FOT, 5 wickets taken for 14 runs by O/C RALS PERERA of FAHS against FOM.
FOE and FMSH came to the finals by beating FOL and FDSS respectively in their semi-finals. Along with the Academic staff, Non-Academic staff, Cadet Officers, and Day Scholars witnessed the event. The Vice Chancellor Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil (Ind) was the Chief guest and the Rector Metropolitan Campus, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence and Admin.), Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Deans of all the faculties were also present. The match was competitive and finally, FOE won the trophy by 29 runs beating the FMSH team. The FOE captain won the toss and decided to bat first and they score 136 runs in the 20 overs, D/S VC Perera scored a brilliant 51 with 6 sixes and O/C PKRJ Jayasinghe scored 28 runs. To the reply for that innings, FMSH scored 108 runs within 18 overs. O/C RMK Silva scored 40 runs, but it was not enough to chase the target. The undermentioned players were awarded for their best performances.
