The Annual Inter Faculty Swimming Meet – 2022

First championship of the Annual Inter Faculty Swimming Meet – 2022 of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) was ceremonially closed on 25th February, after competitive 02-days of performance at the University Swimming Pool. 147 participants represented from 10 faculties of the university competed in 32 events. Brigadier W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Administration) and the Chairman of Sports Council of KDU opened the meet ceremonially at AM hours on 24th February.

The colourful closing ceremony was graced by Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University as the Chief Guest.

The Annual Inter Faculty Swimming Meet was conducted for the first time deviating from “Inter Squadron” to “Inter Faculty”, with the visionary decision taken by the Vice Chancellor to enhance the competition among Officer Cadets and Day Scholars of the University, also developed the togetherness of the Faculties.

The swimmers who displayed the best of their aquatic talent in the competition were awarded with medals and certificates at the closing ceremony. Day Scholar GEV De Silva of Faculty of Law who stormed 03 new KDU swimming records with 03 gold medals became the Best Male Swimmer and Lady Officer Cadet RD Jothirathne of Faculty of Engineering who won 03 gold medals with a new KDU swimming record in 200m Breast Stroke (Women) event was awarded as the Best Female Swimmer.

First championship of the inter faculty swimming meet was a breathtaking experience to the spectators and they could witness record-setting performances from the participants with following 09 new KDU swimming records.

With some outstanding performances over two days, Faculty of Computing crowned as the champions of the Annual Inter Faculty Swimming Meet 2022 by securing 69 points; Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities and Faculty of Engineering became 1st Runners up and 2nd Runners up by securing 63 points and 53 points respectively.
