
Inter Faculty Indoor Rowing Championship – 2022
The inaugural Inter Faculty Indoor Rowing Championship organized by the KDU Rowing Crew was held on 15th and 16th September 2022 at the KDU Indoor Stadium. The championship comprised of 11 events as follows:
- Under 26 Male/Female
- 500m Individual Race
- 2000m Individual Race
- 500m*4*4 Relay
- 1 Hour Endurance Relay
- Over 26 Male
- 500m Individual Race
- 500m*4*2 Relay
- Over 26 Female
- 500m Individual Race
Officer Cadets, Day Scholars, Student Officers, Lecturers as well as Officers from 10 faculties competed shoulder to shoulder in these races to bring glory to their respective faculties on both days, in great spirit of sportsmanship and comradery.
The opening ceremony was held on the morning of 15th September 2022 with Brigadier RGU Rajapakshe RSP psc, The Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies, as the Chief Guest. The event commenced with the oath of sportsmanship read out by the Captain of KDU Rowing Crew, SCQMS MSM Marshad. The event concluded after the Chief Guest’s official declaration to commence the Inter Faculty Indoor Rowing Championship.
The second day of the championship commenced in the early hours of 16th September 2022 with athletes competing with determination and courage.
The closing ceremony of the championship was held in evening of the same day, with the honored presence of Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Vice Chancellor as the Chief Guest. He praised the athletes for their sportsmanship and gave away the awards to the winners.
The Championship of the event was jointly won by the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) and the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities (FMSH), while the Faculty of Defense and Strategic Studies (FDSS) became the Runner up.
Special achievements by the contestants were:
Best Male Indoor Rower: Squadron Cadet Sergeant Major RGYK Rajapaksha (FOE)
Best Female Indoor Rower: Day Scholar SD Perera (FMSH)
