Inter Faculty Netball Tournament – 2022

General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University witnessed its first-ever Inter Faculty Netball Tournament from 21st to 23rd April 2022 with 120 talented players, representing 10 faculties performing their maximum for the crown. Teams from the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Management Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Allied Health Science, Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Science, Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Criminal Justice participated in the tournament.

            The tournament began at 1400 hrs on 21st April 2022. The tournament witnesses some nail-biting remarkable matches where all the players performed their maximum to win from opposing team. Finally, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Management Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Criminal Justice teams were selected for the semi finals.

            In the Semi finals, Faculty of Law secure their victory against the Faculty of Management Social Sciences and Humanities while Faculty of Engineering won against Faculty of Criminal Justice depicting their team spirit and sportsmanship. The day ended with the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Engineering clearing out their paths for the ultimate victory.

            The closing ceremony was graced by the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, as the chief guest.

            The final match between the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Law made the spectators lose their breath. It was a spectacular match which portrayed the sportsmanship, team effort and the never give up attitude of the players. At the conclusion of a hard fought match Faculty of Engineering rose themselves up as the Champions of the Inter Faculty Netball Tournament 2022 and Faculty of Law became the Runner’s up of the tournament.

            Following trophies and titles were awarded for the outstanding performance displayed by the players during the tournament:

  • D/S Isini Gomes from the Faculty of Engineering who displayed outstanding performance throughout the tournament was crowned as the Netball Queen of the Tournament
  • D/S Sarojinee Pushpakumari from the Faculty of Law was titled the best shooter for the highest shooting accuracy.
  • D/S Lavanga Kaluarachchi from the Faculty of Engineering who gave a tight defence was awarded the title of Best Defensive Player.
  • Best Center Court player was awarded to L/O/C Tharushi Herath from the Faculty of Engineering for the skilful playing displayed during the game.
  • D/S Samadhi Upadya from the Faculty of Management Social Sciences and Humanities was awarded the title of the Emerging player of the tournament for her promising performance showcasing the potential to be a future star in KDU Netball.

            KDU undergraduates displayed virtuous sportsmanship qualities and super impressive fighting spirit throughout the tournament. The tournament concluded giving all spectators an evening filled with astounding excitement and joy.
