DSS contribution to the NIICE International Studies Convention 2021

A panel, consisted of two academics of the Department of Strategic Studies and seven students of the Bachelor of Science Degree programme in Strategic Studies and International Relations, participated in the International Studies Convention which was held on 29 August 2021. The theme of the three-day Convention was “Re-imagining the World: Reflections on the Future of World Order”. It was a flagship event of the Nepal Institute for International Cooperation and Engagement (NIICE).  

The virtual panel titled “Sri Lanka in South Asia and Beyond” was chaired by D.G. Niruka Sanjeewani (Senior Lecturer, DSS) and represented by the panelists including Viran Maddumage (Instructor, DSS), Day Scholars Arthana Medawatte, Deshani Samaragunaratna, Javindu Gimantha, Pahani Attanayake, Dismini Premachandra, Imasha Lakshmiwewa & Savindu Wanigasooriya of Intake 37.  Dr. Reena Marwah from the University of Delhi also participated in the session.

The panelists provided their strategic insights on contingency role of Sri Lanka towards Maldives, success story of the reunification of Germany, the Russian annexation of Crimea, post war Sri Lanka and China economic relations, extremist milieus on social media and China’s BRI project in Thailand and Sri Lanka.  The session was also followed by questions and answers.
