KDU Chess Teams Shine at the 6th Castle Fest Inter University Chess Tournament 2023

The 6th Castle Fest Inter University Chess Tournament 2023, organized by the Chess Club of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) in collaboration with the Physical Education and Sports Unit of SLIIT University was held on 23rd February 2023, at the SLIIT University premises Malabe. Along with KDU, there were 12 Private Universities that participated in the  6th Castle Fest Inter University Chess Tournament 2023.

In this tournament, four teams of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University participated and showcased their talents. KDU Men’s A Team and KDU Women’s A Team brought honour to KDU by being the champions in both Men’s and Women’s categories. The champion team trophy was awarded by the chief guest, International Master Ms. Sachini Ranasinghe who is a four-time national chess champion.

Day Scholar RN Askey (Captain of KDU Men’s A-Team), Officer Cadet NWAGN Nanayakkara, Officer Cadet MHNA Dayananda, Officer Cadet SA Nagahawatta, Day Scholar RAMB Ranasinghe, Day Scholar SS Edirisinghe, Day Scholar MTS Perera and Day Scholar N Thalal were the members of the KDU Men’s A-Team.

Day Scholar RMPC Rathnayake, Day Scholar T Sarathchandra, Day Scholar AABB Athukorala, Day Scholar CNA Bopage, Day Scholar DMHN Bandara, Day Scholar T Rathnayake, Day Scholar SN De Silva Kanakarathna and Day Scholar LANY Karunarathne were the members of the KDU Women’s A-Team.
