Eligibility Criteria & Admission Procedure for Military Cadets

1. Officer Cadets 

The initial step of cadet enlistment is the publication of an advertisement in the national newspapers, KDU website and the Government Gazette, announcing the eligibility requirements given below.

The candidate should :

a. Be a citizen of Sri Lanka

b. Be not less than 18 years and not more than 22 years of age on the closing date of application.

c. Be eligible for the university admission and have fulfilled the following requirements.

(1) Have offered three (03) subjects at the Generaal Certificate Examination(Advanced level) held under the new scheme and obtained.

(a) At least an ‘S’ grade for all three approved subjects
(b)A pass in the common General Paper and be eligible for university admission.

d. Be unmarried.

e. Satisfy the following minimum physical standards for Army,Navy & Airforce.

Male

Height – 167.6cm (5′ 6″)
Weight – 50kgs (110lbs)
Chest – 81.25 (32″ Un-expanded)

Female

Height – 160.0cm (5′ 3″)

2. Selection of the Officer Cadets for Degree Programmes

The initial step of cadet enlistment is the publication of an advertisement in the national newspapers, KDU website and the Government Gazette, announcing the eligibility requirements given below.

a. Preliminary Interview – The preliminary interview is mainly directed to ascertain the educational qulifications, physical standards and the personality qualities.

b. Second Interview & the Officer Quality Test – This is designed to test physical and mental abilities. Applicants are required to perform activities decided by the interview board within a stipulated time. Moreover, communication ability in English(both oral and written) is also tested.

c. Final Interview – Applicants who reach the required standard are interviewed by a selection committe appointed by the Board of Management.

d. Mediacal Test – Finally,a medical test is conducted to ensure that the applicants conform to the required medical standards of the service.

Notes: –

a. If a candidate possesses outstanding achievements in sports or in other relevant fields, the above physical standards may be relaxed by the Secretary, Ministry of Defence & Urban Development.

b. With the required medical standard, successful candidates are required to pass medical test.

c. No officer cadet or officer is permitted to marry whilst under training and until he/she is permitted to do so by the service regulations
