KDU Chess Team Emerged as the Runners-up of the 1st SLTC Elite Trophy Inter University Chess Championship 2023

The 1st SLTC Elite Trophy Inter-University Chess Championship 2023 was organized by the Chess Club of SLTC Research University in collaboration with the Sports Council of SLTC Research University. This was held on the 25th of March 2023, at the SLTC Research University premises in Padukka. Students representing 20 universities participated in this event.

In this tournament, 4 teams represented from the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and showcased their talents. Eventually, KDU Men’s A Team and KDU Women’s A Team brought honour to KDU by being the runners-up in both men’s and women’s categories.

Day Scholar RN Askey (Captain of KDU Men’s Chess Team), Officer Cadet NWAGN Nanayakkara, Officer Cadet MHNA Dayananda, Officer Cadet SA Nagahawatta, Day Scholar RAMB Ranasinghe, Day Scholar SS Edirisinghe, Day Scholar MTS Perera and Day Scholar N Thalal played for the KDU Men’s A Team.

Lady Officer Cadet DAGH Dhanawalawithana, Day Scholar RMPC Rathnayake, Day Scholar T Sarathchandra, Day Scholar AABB Athukorala, Day Scholar DMHN Bandara, Day Scholar T Rathnayake, Day Scholar SN De Silva Kanakarathna and Day Scholar LANY Karunarathne played for the KDU Women’s A Team.
