Colonel Hasantha’s impressive journey began at Bandarawaththa Parakkrama Madya Maha Vidyalaya, and his commitment to service was further demonstrated when he enlisted into the 13th Intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in 1995. Since then, his career has been a testament to dedication, excellence, and leadership.
Over the course of 29 years, Colonel Hasatha has completed numerous prestigious courses, both locally and internationally, with outstanding distinction. These include the Junior Services Command and Staff Course at the SLAF Academy, Staff Course at the Defence Services Command and Staff College, and specialized training such as the Armoured Young Officers Course and the Radio & Armament Instructor Course at the Armoured Corps Centre & School in Ahmednagar, India. His further studies in China, through the Armour Intermediate Command Programme, underscore his commitment to advancing his knowledge and adapting to the evolving landscape of defense.
Additionally, Colonel Hasantha has completed the Military Observers and Staff Officers Course at the Institute of Peace Support Operations Training – Sri Lanka, highlighting his expertise in peacekeeping and international operations.
His extensive service includes roles such as General Staff Officer 2 in the Directorate of Operations, and significant positions within the 52 Division and the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership as the Assistant Adjutant, Sabre Squadron Commander, Head Quarter Squadron Commander, and 2nd in Command of the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment. Most notably, Colonel Hasantha commanded the 6th Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, and most recently, served as the Commandant of the Armoured Corps Training Centre.
He has also contributed to international peacekeeping efforts by serving in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSUMA).
Colonel Hasantha’s bravery and service are further distinguished by his receipt of the Rana Sura Padakkama, awarded for an act of valor in the face of the enemy.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Colonel Hasatha is a passionate sportsman. His interests and talents span basketball, rowing, badminton, pistol firing, and golf—showcasing his well-rounded abilities and dedication to excellence in every endeavor.
Colonel Hasantha is married to Sandhya, and they are blessed with two children.
