කෘතගුණ
The Rotaract Club of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University launched it’s very 1st community service project for the Rotaract year named ‘’ කෘතගුණ’’ on 30th of July 2024, focusing on 24 disabled war heroes at Mihindu Seth Madura, Dehiwala-Attidiya.
Project “ කෘතගුණ ” was a heartwarming event aimed at honoring the sacrifices and dedication of our war veterans who were injured in the battle to protect the sovereignty of our motherland. We organized a memorable day for these heroic individuals at Mihindu Seth Madura. The day’s activities included a visit to the historic Bellanwila temple, a delightful lunch, an engaging entertainment session, presenting appreciation tokens and a donation of 50 electric light bulbs to enhance their comfort and well-being of the living environment.
The event began with a serene visit to the Bellanwila temple, where the veterans had the opportunity to take part in the religious observances by allowing them a spiritual retreat and a change of scenary.
Following the temple visit, we hosted a special lunch for the 24 inmates and their care takers who are doing a tremendous job by carefully look after them where we also joined the lunch with them. The meal was delight spread of traditional dishes,carefully and hygienically prepared to cater their sensible taste buds. The dining expierience was not just about the food but about fostering a sense of community and appreciation. The war heroes shared their stories and laugher creating an atmosphere of friendship and warmth
We hope this gesture worked to get rid from from their monotonous and uniform lifestyle.
The highlight of the day was the entertainment session created to bring the bring joy. We all took part in singing songs and interacting with the war veterans which was heart warming.
In addition to these activities we donated 50 electric light bulbs to facilitate the further support and comfort to these inmates by enhancing their living standards. As a token of appreciation for the service they have rendered for the nation, we presented 25 commerative tokens which was decorated by a poem of our own rotaractor that expressing our gratitude and love towards them.
There is no doubt that ‘’ කෘතගුණ” project was a huge success. Seeing all the smiles on the faces of the veterans and the heartfelt expressions of gratitude made the day incredibly meaningful. It was a humbling experience to connect with these heroes and provide them with a day of joy and recognition. The event left a lasting impression on everyone involved, reinforcing the values of gratitude, community, and kindness.
