General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) and the National Institute of Defense Studies (NIDS), Japan had a cordial virtual discussion on August 30, 2021. Discussions were held were on the theme of ‘Maritime Security Cooperation’, with the two institutions deliberating at length about the various avenues for cooperation.
The NIDS delegation was led by Vice President – Major General Yuji Kiguchi; and comprised of Director, Security Studies Department – Professor Marie Izuyama; Director, Education Department – Captain Katsuya Yamamoto; Senior Fellow, Government and Law Division, Security Studies Department – Dr. Seiya Eifuku; Senior Fellow, Asia and Africa Division, Regional Studies Department – Mr. Masami Nishino; Senior Fellow, China Studies Division, Regional Studies Department – Dr. Shinji Yamaguchi and Research Fellow, Asia and Africa Division, Regional Studies Department – Dr. Masahiro Kurita.
The KDU delegation was led by Vice Chancellor – Major General Milinda Peiris and comprised of Dean, Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies – Colonel Enoj Herath; Head of Department, Department of Strategic Studies – Dr. Harinda Vidanage; Senior Lecturer, Department of Strategic Studies – Dr. Sanath de Silva; and Senior Lecturer, Department of Strategic Studies. Dean, Research & Development – Professor Charitha Gunasekara; Director, International Research Office – Dr. Prasanna Premadsa; Senior Lecturer – Department of Social Sciences – Dr. Hemantha Premaratne and Research Officer Department of Strategic Studies – Major Eranga Rathnayaka too participated in the event.
