Study Tour of Intake 39

The Officer Cadets of Intake 39 of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University went on a 5 day Annual Study Tour to visit some significant places of Sri Lanka from 19th January 2023 to 23rd January 2023. A total of 211 Officer Cadets including 12 Foreign Officer Cadets and Lady Officer Cadets, along with 9 Officers and 20 Other Rank Instructors participated in the Study Tour. The Squadron Commander of Intake 39, Lieutenant Commander YMSY Weerathunge RSP BNS headed the Study Tour along with other Troop Commanders of Intake 39.


The Study Tour officially commenced on 19th January and the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy was the first destination. Then, Officer cadets visited Botanical Garden in Nuwara Elliya. On the 20th of January, Officer Cadets visited Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA). During the visit of the Officer Cadets of Intake 39, they also played a friendly Basketball match with Officer Cadets of SLMA. On the 21st of January, Officer Cadets visited Marksmanship and Sniper Training School (MSTS) and Fox Hill area for a demonstration. In Kataragama, Officer Cadets visited Sellaktaragama, Kataragama Kovil, and Kiriwehera Temple. On the 22nd of January, Officer Cadets visited Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), Hambantota Port, and KDU Southern Campus at Sooriyawewa. At KDU Southern Campus, they played a friendly Volleyball Match with Students of KDU Southern Campus. The Camp Fire of the Study Tour was held at KDU Southern Campus on the of 22nd January and it was a memorable occasion for the Officer Cadets to show their abilities, skills, and talents. On the 23rd of January, Officer Cadets visited the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineers in Empilipitiya and enlighten themselves about the tasks and responsibilities of the Engineer’s Regiment, and that marked the final destination of the Study Tour.


The Study Tour of Intake 39 enabled the Officer Cadets to build themselves as a comprehensive team of Cadets and Comrades before they leave for their respective Military Academies. The Study Tour stimulated fruitful discussions that required them to be groomed as Young Officers in the Tri-Forces of Sri Lanka.
