The Annual Inter Faculty Swimming Meet – 2023
KDU Annual Inter Faculty Swimming Meet – 2023 was ceremonially opened in the morning hours on 8th March 2023. Brigadier DCA Wickramasinghe USP USACGSC the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Defence & Administration), and the Chairman of the Sports Council of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. A total of 210 participants representing 10 Faculties of the University competed in 50 events at the Annual Inter Faculty Swimming Meet – 2023.
The colourful closing ceremony of the Annual Inter Faculty Swimming Meet 2023 was held on 10th March 2023 and was graced by Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. The swimmers who displayed the best of their aquatic talent in the competition were awarded medals and certificates at the closing ceremony.
D/SC NH Jayawardane from the Faculty of Engineering who stormed two KDU new records and won three gold medals became the Best Male Swimmer. D/S SN Tennakoon from the Faculty of Law who stormed three KDU new records and won three gold medals became the Best Female Swimmer.
The Annual Inter Faculty Swimming Meet was a breathtaking experience for the spectators and they could witness record-setting performances from the participants with the following new swimming records.
- 200m Freestyle Women: D/S SN Tennakoon – 2:40.42 – FOL
- 100m Breaststroke Women: D/S AM Kulathilaka – 1:30.91 – FMSH
- 100m Freestyle Men: D/S SK Liyanage – 1:03.87 – FOC
- 66m Butterfly Women: D/S SN Tennakoon – 48.90 – FOL
- 66m Butterfly Men: O/Cadet SKV Hatharasinghe – 42.40 – FOM
- 66m Breaststroke Men: D/S NH Jayawardene – 44.97 – FOE
- 133m Individual Medley Women: D/S KDRM Munasinghe – 2:14.68 – FOC
- 200m Breaststroke Women: D/S AM Kulathilake – 3:20.06 – FMSH
- 33m Butterfly Women: D/S SN Tennakoon – 21.60 – FOL
- 33m Breaststroke Men: D/S NH Jayawardene – 20.42 – FOE
With some outstanding performances over three days, the Faculty of Computing was crowned as the champions of the Annual Inter Faculty Swimming Meet – 2023 by securing 138 points. The Faculty of Engineers and the Faculty of Law became 1st Runners up and 2nd Runners up by securing 126 points and 122 points respectively.
