Lieutenant Commander (ASW) Sudarshana Aluthpatabendige is a proud product of Dharmaraja College, Kandy, and joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Undergraduate Officer Cadet to the 27th Intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University on 20th September 2009. On completion of his studies in the Management and Technical Sciences (MTS) stream at the KDU, he underwent initial naval training at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee.
He followed the Sub Lieutenant Technical Course in INS Venduruthy, India in 2014, and successfully completed his Junior Naval Staff Course at Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee in 2021. He also specialized in Anti-Submarine Warfare from the Naval and Maritime Academy in 2022. Further, He is also a graduate of KDU with a Bachelor of Science (Defence Studies) degree in Management and Technical Sciences.
He has held several instructor, and command appointments during his 15-year naval career in the Sri Lanka Navy. In addition to four years out at sea serving on board naval ships and craft, he has also performed duties at several shore establishments including the training institutions. During his career as the instructor, he performed as the Divisional Officer to the Officer Cadets of the 35th intake of Kotelawala Defence University in 2017. Moreover, Lieutenant Commander Sudarshana Aluthpatanendige held the appointment of the Additional Officer of SLNS Sayura, Additional Officer onboard SLNS Abeeetha II, Second in Command of P 480 and P 4443, Officer in Command of P 450, P 485 and P 464. Prior to becoming the Squadron Commander of intake 39, he held appointment Officer in Command of P 485 and P 464 in the elite 4th Fast Attack Flotilla.
