LCdr (ASW) KP Sameera enlisted to the Sri Lanka Navy as an officer cadet to the Intake XXIV KDU in 2006 and underwent his basic training at Kothalawala Defence University and Naval and Maritime Academy. He specialized in Anti submarine warfare at INS Vendurthy, India in 2018.

He has completed Sub lieutenant technical course in India, Junior Naval Staff Course at Junior Naval Staff College Naval and Maritime Academy in 2016 and several local and foreign professional courses during his career.

He has served Command, Instructional and Staff appointments in various capacities and few such appointments are Officer in CommandP480, P 485,P415,P422, and P436 Fast Attack Craft, Officer in Command L820 Landing Craft ,Executive Officer of SLNS Ranadeera  Fast Gun Boats, Instructor Officer to Officer Training Wing at Naval and Maritime Academy, Officer in charge of IPC(inshore patrol craft) Training team, Staff Officer Harbor defense.

He obtained Bachelor of Science (Defence and Strategic Studies) in management & Technical Science (BSc (DS) MTS) from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Sri Lanka.
