“LEGACY 24”: A Stellar Welcome for the Intake 41 Students of the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies

“The Legacy 24”, the ceremony to welcome the entrants of Intake 41 of the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies was held on 29th of February 2024 at the Main Auditorium of The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.

The event was graced by the Chief Guest, the Dean of the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies, the Deputy Dean, the Director of the Strategic Assessment and International Relations Office, the Head of the Department of Strategic Studies, military officers, academia, and student of the faculty.  

The proceedings of the event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the oil lamp, followed by the rendition of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University anthem. Subsequently, all attendees observed a minute of silence to honour the war heroes.

The program “LEGACY 24” stands as a testament towards the resounding welcome of the new scholars to the Faculty. The event was an initiative organized by the senior students of the Faculty to give a warm welcome and generate a sense of belonging to the new entrants.

The event comprised of an interactive session by the senior students which shed light on the importance of the degree program. It also covered areas such as sport activities, club activities and extra-curricular activities. This fostered the richness of university life while highlighting the key attributes of the degree program.

The event was followed by an entertainment session in which the senior students entertained the gathering with dancing and singing performances.

This active engagement of students highlighted the benefits of participation in both academic and extra-curricular activities in order to achieve the expected standards of a KDU graduate. “The LEGACY 24” program emphasized the value of camaraderie among fellow students and diversity of the University.
